OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE SOLDIERS AND CHIEFS: THE IRISH AT WAR AT HOME AND ABROAD SINCE 1550, THE LARGEST MILITARY EXHIBITION IN EUROPE, IN THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF IRELAND - DECORATIVE ARTS AND HISTORY, COLLINS BARRACKS, BENBURB STREET ON OCTOBER 5TH 2006.
THE EXHIBITION WAS OPENED BY DR. JOHN O'DONOGHUE T.D., MINISTER FOR ARTS, SPORT AND TOURISM. THIS PERMANENT EXHIBITION ON IRISH MILITARY IS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN IRELAND AND IS LOCATED IN A NEWLY BUILT 3-STOREY WING AT COLLINS BARRACKS. IT DISPLAYS MORE THAN 1,000 ORIGINAL ARTEFACTS, LETTERS, REPLICAS AND INTERACTIVES TO ILLUSTRATE HOW SOLDERING AND WAR HAVE AFFECTED THE LIVES OF THE IRISH.
