This one off event celebrates the poetry of W.B. Yeats, featuring readings of his famous poems by musician and philanthropist Bob Geldof and acclaimed actors Sinéad Cusack (Our Few and Evil Days), Lisa Dwan (Beckett’s Not I) and Peter Campion (Brooklyn, Love/Hate). Ruth McCabe (Philomena, My Left Foot) will act as narrator, providing illuminating introductions to each poem. This is the first of these poetry hours in almost a decade, and fittingly we celebrate the poetry of W.B Yeats on the Abbey stage.
About The Josephine Hart Poetry Hour: Josephine Hart (1942-2011) was born and raised in Mullingar before moving to London in her twenties, marrying Lord Maurice Saatchi in 1984. She became a well-known and much-loved theatre producer in the West End, producing the award-winning hits The House of Bernarda Alba and The Black Prince. She was also a best-selling author of six novels, including Damage which was adapted into a film with Juliette Binoche and Jeremy Irons. Josephine died suddenly in 2011, and the Dean of Westminster Abbey arranged a memorial poetry reading in Westminster Abbey to mark her death.
Josephine’s passion for poetry led her to found The Josephine Hart Poetry Hour, which took London by storm in the 1990s and 2000s. These hugely popular poetry hours were presented at such celebrated venues as the British Library, The National Theatre, The Donmar Warehouse, The New York Public Library and Harvard and Lond
